Unemployment insurance is the Government program paying benefits to the workers who were laid off. Majority of the states of the US offer these benefits. However, criteria of some states for allowing unemployment benefits differ from the others. The Social Security Act passed in the year 1935 included the concept of unemployment insurance; the idea of offering benefits to the unemployed individuals in the country came into practice for the first time after inclusion of this law.
